GwinAq Second at Lanier Winter Invite

12/19/17 - Gwinnett Aquatics was unable to defend its title at the Lanier Winter Invite in Gainesville this weekend despite a charge on Sunday to get within 100 points of Enfinity Aquatics from North Carolina.  It was still a strong showing given that most of our Senior team wasn't there this year. Led by 5 time champ Bria Carter and 8x champ Isaac Saenz we were very strong in the 10Us and 8Us and improved in 11-12 and 13-14s over last year.

Over the three-day meet we had six swimmers win events and nine more medal! Twelve swimmers picked up new time standards and two got their first state cut! Additionally Isaac Saenz broke the team record in the 50 fly.

Now we have a great opportunity for even more improvement during the holidays to get ready for the Rays Invite and Eastern Classic and the bigger championship meets in February and March!

Seniors Strong at State In Rebuilding Year

12/11 - Despite graduating over half the group last year and having almost 50% new swimmers this year, the Senior group was able to nearly match last years performance at Senior State, holding at about 14th and having 2 swimmers final and 3 score.  Drew Grier and Sarah Jahns both had two scoring swims including top-10 swims in the 100 fly and 1000 free respectively. Charlie Fountain also scored in the 1000.

The meet was converted to a timed final meet on Saturday and Sunday due to weather.  Our Seniors took advantage of the late starts and extra sleep to record an unusually high number of best times for a mid-season meet and to nearly triple our number of AAA swimmers.

Grier, Fountain, Wesley Carter, Griffin Hammett and Maggie Nguyen all recorded their first AAA's (All-Star times) of the season.  Additionally Fountain, Hammett, Grier and Carter picked up new sectional cuts. We even had some swimmers (Jahns, Hammett) pick up new state cuts when they were pressed into swimming off strokes to lead off relays!

Swim-A-Thon 2017 Almost a Wrap

12/8 - All the groups have now finished their swims for the 2017 Swim-A-Thon and now all that's left is to finish collecting the money and for the last couple swimmers to make up their swims.

The swimming was fierce with returning Blue teamers dropping 48 seconds per 100 on their timed swim and Prep in 2nd dropping 12 seconds per 100!  Isaac Saenz broke the team record in the 10U timed 800 by almost 40 seconds!. Results available using the link below.

Currently we have raised just over $17,000 toward our goal of $25,000*.  But only about 70% of the team has participated.  All money is due in by this Thursday so we hope the remaining families will join in by then.

*not all funds will be reflected in the on-line total. Facebook, check and cash donations will only be added if they bring the swimmer over one of the national Swim-a-Thon prize thresholds.

GwinAq Swimmers Pass Early Season Test

11/20 - Gwinnett Aquatics swimmers wrapped up a very successful early season meet at Dynamo Swim Center last night. Each year, the Woodie B Malone Invite is the first real test of the year for many of our swimmers and this year we had one of our best meets in a while with nine swimmers winning events and over a dozen more placing.

Isaac Saenz led the way winning four events, breaking two team records (50 and 100 fly) and recording the 1st AAAA (silver cap!) time for the team this season.  Juliana Carey, Ruthie Delong, Caitlyn Diehl, Lindsey Diehl, Hailey Dopson, Charlie Fountain, Sarah Jahns, and Maggie Nguyen all also won events.

Carey and Jahns picked up the first AAA (All-Star) times of the season while Grant Deckers, Lauren Diehl, Caitlyn Petmecky and Desymber Richie got their first AA's.  Sofie Rees swam to her first A time of the year and Abby Bold, Emily Morgan, Addison Shaffer and Zoe Wilson earned their first BB times, and Kayla Deckers and Paige Johnson their first B times. Fountain, Richie, Lauren Diehl, Andrew Guo, and Graham Simmon went their first in-season state cuts.

GaGa Swimmers Hit First Invite at IMX

11/13 - Gwinnett Aquatics swimmers swam their first invitational of the season at the IMX Invite in Marietta this weekend. It was the first chance for our 13 and Over swimmers to complete their IMX events though most still lack at least one event until next weekend's meet. Once the results are uploaded to the USA Swimming database (SWIMS) swimmers who have done all 5-6 events in the IMX category will have an IMX score you can see on your Deck Pass!

Hannah Claire Jowers won multiple events while Kate Johnson and Maggie Nguyen won the100 and 400 IMs respectively.  Juliana Carey, Grace Fleming, Drew Grier, Caitlyn Petmecky, Brandon Shepard and Alex Zhong all placed.

We've already had so many swimmers pick up USAS standards that there were relatively few new ones this weekend.  Adam Dockstader and David Duong got their first B times. And Kate Johnson picked up her first state cut! Hopefully a lot of our swimmers will move up a level at next weekend's Woodie B Malone Invite, our first prelims/finals meet of the season.

GwinAq Swimmers Excel in Post-season Meets

8/7 - While most of their teammates were enjoying the last week of vacation, three GaGa swimmers were competing in some big postseason meets and tearing it up this past weekend.

Juliana Carey was competing with the Georgia Zone team at the Zone Champs in Tupelo.  She was selected as a captain of the team and scored in five different events while picking up some new Futures times.

Meanwhile Alex Norcini and Drew Grier were competing in Nashville at r the Futures Champs. Alex scored some hardware, taking home a 5th place medal in 400 IM.  He reclaimed his team record in that event after Josh Fountain broke it the previous week.  He also re-broke his own record in the 200 IM.  Drew Grier picked up his first ever Junior National time and Scholastic All-American time in the 100 fly.

GaGa 14th at Senior State Champs

7/25 - Most of the Gwinnett Aquatics senior group finished out the season this weekend at the Senior State Champs at UGA. While most of the swimmers had their big meet at Sectionals and three swimmers still headed to Zones and Futures, the meet was still a good one for a group of swimmers

Josh Fountain broke Alex Norcini's 400 IM record en route to a 4th place finish and the boys re-broke the 400 Medley Relay record while missing two 200 relays records by less than .1 seconds.  Drew Grier scored three events with a 4th in the 50 fly and Charlie Fountain scored for the first time ever taking 12th in the 1500.

This week  Juliana Carey will be competing in Tupelo with the GA Zone team while Alex Norcini and Drew Grier will travel to Nashville for the Futures Champs.

Ga-Ga 2nd in Medium Team Division at Age Group State!

Following our best-ever finish at the SCY Age Group State Champs back in February, our 14&U swimmers topped that one in the LCM meet held last week at Ga Tech, finishing 9th overall and 2nd amongst the Medium Teams Division.  This is our highest ever finish at a State Champs! Individually the team was led in scoring by Issac Saenz, who won 2 events and medaled in 6 others! Marlowe Misner, our next top-scorer, also had a top-3 finish and multiple scoring swims; Graham Simmon and Lauren Diehl also had multiple scoring swims each, and Lindsey Diehl rounded up our individual scorers.

And while our swimmers had plenty of individual highlights, it was our Ga-Ga Relays that really made a difference in the team scoring, and provided some of our best swims of the weekend, including a whooping 8 New Club Records! The 12&U foursome of Lindsey Diehl, Desymber Richie, Marlowe Misner and Hanna Burke broke a record in all 4 of their swims! Not to be outdone, the 10&U quartet of Hannah-Claire Jowers, Grace Fleming, Caitlyn Diehl and Cate Rovie also broke a record both times they were combined! Finally, the 14&U Girls (Haley Burke, Maggie Nguyen, Lauren Diehl, Ava Gawronski) and the 12&U Boys (Nolan Patterson, Graham Simmon, Isaac Saenz) both broke the 400 Medley Record for their age group!

Saenz picked up his first AAAA(s) of the season and also broke the team record in the 10&U 100 Fly! Simmon picked up his first-ever AAA, and Rachel DeLong picked up her first-ever A time. Simmon, as well as Caitlyn Diehl, Ryan Haskins and Dylan Yin were all 100% best times! For our Age Groupers, this was a great way to cap off a season in which we kept getting better and better, and especially on those older age groups it showed how much of a difference it makes to have a consistent attendance through the season, and especially the commitment to train and follow the plan for the summer season.

And of course, we couldn't mention Age Group State without a HUGE THANK YOU to all our parents (and swimmers) who helped us run the meet! While we struggled a little more this year than in the past to fill-up our volunteer slots, there were quite a few families who gave up so much of their time to make this meet a success: in the hospitality room, as officials, or on deck as times, runners, and a variety of other jobs! Once again we heard tons of positive feedback from other teams, and have maintained our great reputation as an organization that does things right - and deservedly so!

Championship Meets, Round Two

Norcini, Fountain, Sr Boys Break Six Team Records

7/17 - GaGa swimmers continued their run of championship meets this weekend at the Columbus EOS Invite and the Senior Sectional Champs in Athens. Over 25 swimmers competed in Columbus.  Hanna Burke, Jarod Disher, Wesley Carter and Nolan Patterson all won events and Patterson and Desymber Richie picked up new state cuts.  Olivia Yeiser got her first ever B times.

Meanwhile at Senior Sectionals a group of eight senior swimmers were putting together the best Senior Long Course Champs Meet we've ever had.  WE usually don't take a lot to this meet as it is dominated by college swimmers.  But this year we had eight swimmers go and had multiple finalists every night.  Alex Norcini and Josh Fountain both picked up their first AAAA times as well as three team records.  They, together with Griffin Hammett, Daniel Johnson and Drew Grier also broke all three Senior Relay records.  Alex's new times also moved him back into the top 20 in the country in the IMX rankings.  Fountain and Sarah Jahns also scored individually in the distance events with Jahns missing a top-8 finish by .05!  And it was against the girl right next to her as they raced furiously on the last 50.

GwinAq Attack on Twin Meets!

6/28 - Gwinnett Aquatics once again had two squads in competition this weekend but this time in two different states. 30 swimmers competed at the SYS Open in Florida while 40 more were in Marietta for the Hixon Invite. Between the two meets we had over a dozen finalists, six new AAA swimmers and numerous new state qualifying swims. Andrew Guo made his first ever State time!  At a very competitive meet in Sarasota we had more swimmers in finals including Juliana Carey (5), Grant Deckers, Lauren and Lindsey Diehl, Drew Grier, Alex Norcini (7), and Graham (swimmin') Simon.  In Marietta Isaac Saenz was the high point swimmer.

Long Course Begins!

4/30/17 - Gwinnett Aquatics started the long course season this weekend at the LC Kickoff at Ga Tech.  The coaches thought we might get off to a quick start because the work at practice has been so good and they were right. The first meet of every year is always a lot of fun with lots of swimmers getting to see how much they've improved since last summer with some big drops. This year the percentage of best times was even higher than usual. 22 swimmers already have achieved A times, with 9 getting at least AAs and Wes Carter and Issac Saenz already got their All-Star (AAA) times.  Ten swimmers had a top three finish with Saenz and Sarah Jahns getting wins.  Ruth DeLong got her first B time.

In addition 20 swimmers made state cuts including Hannah and Rachel DeLong who got their first State cut.
