Fountain, Albers, Rees Score12/7/15 - Gwinnett Aquatics more than tripled its number of AAA swimmers this weekend at Senior State Champs en route to a fifteenth place finish and fourth in the medium teams group. Josh Fountain was the loan top-10 finish taking 8th in the 1000 free while Matthew Albers was 17th. Both boys picked up their first AAA times as did Jacob Rees who scored in the the 100 IM. Alex Norcini and new GaGa swimmer Drew Grier also picked up their first AAA times. Daniel Johnson, Hayley Shepard and Brad Wyzykowski got their first AA times and Abby Culbertson her first A times. These are some especially remarkable achievements given that GaGa swimmers maintained their training and were not shaved at the meet while most of their competition was. This gives GaGa swimmers a real advantage for the meets in February and March.

GwinAq Age Groupers Finish 10th at 14U State Champs
7/20/15 - Gwinnett Aquatics 14 and Under swimmers took to the pool at Georgia Tech this weekend for the 14U State Champs. After a great year of progress, it was one of our best showings to date at that meet with the team going into the final day in third place in the medium sized team division. But we did not have enough scoring swims on day 4 to hold on. You can be sure the coaching staff is already planning how to improve our training next season so we can hold that spot.
Nonetheless there was plenty to be proud of. It was our largest state team in at least the last six years. Lauren Diehl and Juliana Carey broke team records in the 50 and 100 fly respectively. Bryce Dopson led all scorers for the team and got his first ever AAAA (Silver Cap). Ryan Haskins got his first A time of the season. Other individual scorers included Griffin Hammett, Lindsey Diehl, Colin Houck, Sarah Jahns and Samantha Lewis.

Gwinnett Aquatics Hosts Third Annual Rosenburg Invite
5/18/14 - Two years of challenging weather in a row couldn't hod us down at the Rosenburg Invite last weekend. Despite the cooler temps (sandwiched between two weekends of above average highs), our swimmers had a good start to the season. Eleven swimmers had 100% best times and a number of our 8 and Unders even beat their converted short course times. Griffin Hammett already picked up his long course All Star (AAA) times, while Matthew Albers, Juliana Carey, Josh Fountain and Ciara Mitchell got their A times. Alex Norcini, in his first meet, got his first BB times. Lauren and Lindsey Diehl, Ryan Haskins and Samantha Lewis all picked up new state cuts. Thanx to all the parent volunteers who not lnly did a great job but also served as great role models to the young swimmers about keeping a positive attitude in all sort of conditions.
GaGa Swimmers Get Early Start to Season at Gold Invite
5/4/14 - This weekend some of our swimmers also had a little pre-season meet at GOLD. Even though it is VERY early in the season there were some outstanding performances. Many swimmers already matched their short course standards and 13 swimmers had 100% best times.

3/18/14 - Anna Jahns competed at the ESSZ Senior Sectional Champs this weekend in Charlotte. Gwinnett Aquatics (aka Team Anna) took 7th in the women's division. The sectional meet features the top senior swimmers from the Southeast and this year included numerous US National Team members. Anna won the 1000 free, took 2nd in the 500 and third in the 1650, breaking the team record in all three as well as the 200 back where she was 8th. Her time in the 1000 qualified for US Nationals and was the third fastest swim by a 15-16 girl this year. Her time in the mile missed breaking the Georgia State record (set in 1990!) by .7 She will be trying again at Divisionals so be sure to cheer her on.

Smaller Squad Swims Big at Age Group States
2/24/14 - Even with tougher cuts and a smaller state team, Gwinnett Aquatics put together a great effort at Age Group State Champs this weekend at Ga Tech. The team finished 13th overall, which is 3 places lower than last year. But last year's squad was nearly 50% larger. This year's team outscored the 2012 team which was larger too. After a rough start for the senior swimmers Saturday morning, most of whom are also in the middle of end-of-season high school events, the team got rolling. Led by Anna Jahns' two wins (500, 1000), Griffin Hammett's four top-3 finishes, and Ciara Mitchell's eight top-10 finishes, the team rallied to outscore last year's team. This was even more impressive when you consider how many recently aged-up swimmers we had!

Senior Squad Competes at Senior State Champs
12/9/13 - After graduating so many last spring, Gwinnett Aquatics took its smallest squad ever to Senior State this weekend. Nonetheless we had some impressive results. Anna Jahns scored in five events, including silver in the 1650 (with a new team record of 16:43), and a 4th in the 500. This is even more impressive that she did it during a week of heavy training while most of her competitors were rested and shaved. Ditto for Bradford Wyzykowski, Bryce Peden and Steven Lewis. Brad and Bryce combined for 4 personal bests and their first AAs of the year while Steven had all season bests and his first A times.

Jahns Races at Grand Prix, 10Us at Dynamo
11/17/13 - Anna Jahns took her show on the road this weekend, travelling to Minneapolis, MN to compete in the Arena Grand Prix meet. Swimmers Get 2012 Off to Fast Start
1/16/12 - Our swimmers got the year started off right with a great showing at the Rays' Coaches Invite. Twenty-five different swimmers scored, more than in the past three years, and 14 had 100% best times while numerous swimmers picked up new State cuts. Anna Jahns and Elizabeth Garreau both won events. Juliana Carey, Rory Martin, Jacob Rees, Blake Reynolds, Ben Taylor and Megan Yang all medaled. Reynolds earned his first ever AAA (All-Star) times. Bailee Hammett and Brad Wyzykowski got their first AAs, Alandas McGraw his first A, Ian O'Hara his first BB, and Sydney Reynolds her first B times.
This year's meet was a great start after some really good winter training. This year we had a much higher percentage of best times because so many swimmers did such a good job training over the break. If we can keep our attendance up (and those who didn't do so well over the break can increase their attendance) we will have a big finish to the season.

Long Course Season Kicks Off With GA Invite May 14-15
5/10/11 - The GA Invite this weekend May 14-15, hosted by Gwinnett Aquatics at the Bransby Outdoor YMCA was the first meet of the season and a great way to start the summer. Despite the cold temperatures the kids posted some fast times and enjoyed the meet format. At this very special meet, swimmers had the chance to win tickets for some of the Y's outdoor attractions like the moon bounce, paddle boats and climbing wall. Our parents did a great job too running a fun meet in sometimes trying conditions. Results can be viewed using the link below.
We're Baaack!
3/28/11 - Gwinnett Aquatics finished fourth at the Divisional Champs this weekend in a close battle with ABSC and DAQ for a place on the podium that saw DAQ move ahead of our guys in the fifth and final session to win by a mere 100 points 3300 to 3180. This despite the GaGa swimmers being outnumbered more than 2 to 1! Despite not bringing home any hardware it was a successful return to our most competitive form in every way. The 3100 points we scored was a 1200-point increase from last year and equal to the points we scored when we took 2nd in 2009. We won the 8U, 10U and 12U boys age groups and the combined 10U boys and girls. We had more swimmers win (6), place top 3 (9), or final top 8 (14) then the previous three years. And we had some great rock-n-roll spirit to top it all off.
Individually there were more achievements than can be listed here. There is a partial list below. There will be more in the weekly newsletter that will come out later this week. We'll also have our picture album up later this week. Congratulations to all our swimmers.
